I'm Joe
I'm a London-based songwriter, producer, and electropop artist.
I don't really know what I'm doing in this life but I'm on a constant exploration to learn new things, have real-life experiences with real-life people in person, and bring people together with the music I make.
My Story
I grew up in a seaside town in the northwest of England and started playing classical piano when I was just 6. I was obsessed with the weekly charts radio show and ended up teaching myself to play all my favourite pop songs—think Owl City, Adele, Bruno Mars, Sam Smith, Emeli Sandé, Kate Nash, and Florence + The Machine.
When I was 14, I wrote my first song, "Please," about my best friend who was going through a tough time with self-harm. It was my way of making sense of something I couldn’t really understand at the time.
I kept writing songs and eventually studied Popular Music at Leeds Conservatoire. I learned a lot, but I still wasn’t confident enough to fully dive into my dream of being an artist. Looking back, I had a serious case of imposter syndrome.
After graduating, the lockdown hit and I was having a bit of an existential crisis, so I decided to start a Twitch account. I began writing and streaming songs live, connecting with people from all over the world. In January 2021, I wrote a song almost every day on stream, and that’s when it hit me—I might actually be able to do this for real.
During that time, I also realised how my constant online presence was affecting how I experienced life. I was so glued to my screen that I was missing out on the real world. Since then, I’ve been on a mission to reconnect with myself by stepping away from the digital chaos and rediscovering what’s out there.
Now, I’m living in London, working part-time in hospitality, and spending the rest of my time in my home studio (a.k.a. my bedroom). I’m also trying to take care of my mind and body so I can make the most of every day—even though it’s not always easy.
I always say I'm a fan first, and an artist after that. Yes, I am one of those unhinged people that has queued for 12 hours to see their favs. These days the artists I listen to on repeat are Lorde, Troye Sivan, Charli XCX, Florence + The Machine, Maude Latour, Abby Holliday, Griff, and Gracie Abrams.
I'm always making mistakes, doing things that scare me, and dancing through the streets of London. How is that not making the most of life?
Why 'With Joe' ?
For me, music comes alive in a shared experience. Sure, I spend plenty of time listening through my headphones, but nothing compares to being in a sweaty crowd of strangers, all singing along to the same songs. Music is about sharing moments with others, and when you’re listening to my music, you’re always sharing that experience ‘With Joe’ (me).
